A tribute to the Astronomical Sailor Moon Observatory

About this page: ASMO was created by Terry Ladan with Jim Gleed, 1998 to 2000. I'm preserving its memory here as a fan. Every story and graphic belongs to its creators, and each link below opens the original pages as saved by the Internet Archive's Wayback Machine.

THE STORY OF ASMO

ASMO started as a college prank. In the late 1990s, Terry, who knew the original Japanese manga, convinced his friend Jim, who only knew the North American dub, that there were more Sailor Soldiers than the show had revealed. In 1998 the joke grew into nine original Sailor Soldiers, named for Earth, the Sun, Pluto's moon Charon, and an assortment of gods and imagined places.

Alongside the characters came a serialized fanfic that reached nineteen chapters before it stopped, with hints that more Soldiers were meant to debut later. Early sound files and extras were cut in the site's 2000 overhaul, the "Millennium 2000 Edition." After that, the site stood untouched in what fans called museum mode. It stayed online for more than two decades.
